We are strengthening our Legal & Governance functions throughout Inter IKEA Group. To empower this movement, we are seeking to appoint a Head of Group Legal function to create and manage a lean group function based in Delft, The Netherlands. The Head of Group Legal & Governance will cooperate with the Heads of legal & Governance of Inter IKEA Group’s three core businesses headquartered in The Netherlands, Switzerland and Sweden.

About the job
As the Head of Group Legal & Governance, you’ll develop, lead and deliver long term plans for the legal departments together with the Heads of legal of the core businesses and ensure that these plans contribute significantly to the Inter IKEA Group development.
You develop and lead an effective and efficient Inter IKEA Group governance structure including intra group agreements and our Policy House, by assigning roles and responsibilities in order to create effective internal control systems and by that support risk management.

Next to that you will serve as the Corporate Secretary on Group level as well as managing corporate responsibilities in areas such as M&A, competition law, regulatory monitoring and related public affairs activities.

In this role, you provide support to the Legal Departments of the core businesses, through creating and leading a Legal Operations function that enables the legal departments to optimise their operations for example by enhancing the legal infrastructure (processes, tools, technology platforms) & reporting across the core businesses and legal departments. This also provides for an effective reporting mechanism on the performance of claims & litigation activities and legal risk on a group level.

You’ll act as a member of the Finance and Ethics committees of Inter IKEA Group, serve as the Secretary of the Audit committee and Annual General Meeting and participate in relevant networks of expertise within and between Inter IKEA core businesses.

About you
We are looking for a Head of Legal & Governance who is qualified to practice law in at least one jurisdiction within EU, EES, US or China and who has an overall, in-depth knowledge of legal issues in the area of corporate law and governance (Dutch corporate law is a plus). You have experience in leading a legal department in an international environment with a minimum 10 years of relevant legal and leadership experience in a multinational company.

You have:

  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record building & leading a legal team
  • The ability to challenge existing ways of working and drive change
  • A pragmatic, flexible and business-oriented approach, while thoughtfully managing legal and compliance risk
  • Broad business perspective and ability to quickly gain understanding of business situations and identify root-causes
  • Confidence and effective management of complex situations with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to create trust, build strong networks and relationships by being a team player who embraces collaboration with cross-functional teams in a diverse global business

You need to be fluent in English; Dutch and/or Swedish is a plus.
